Stage Your Home Before Taking Pictures

These days we do everything online, so it’s no surprise that our real estate searches have gone digital as well. Searching for a dream home in the year 2011 is not like in the old days where future homeowners pounded the pavement in search for the perfect floor plan and ample square footage. Now, most of the research is done behind a computer screen and only a few homes are actually visited. That’s why it’s important for sellers to showcase their homes in the best light. So if you’re thinking about selling your home so you can move into a bigger one, the local Salt Lake City movers suggest you stage your home before you take a picture to post online and certainly before you offer a virtual tour of it. If a picture is worth a thousand words, make sure your home is superb on camera. Create a nice, clutter-free environment before taking a snapshot of the individual rooms. The Salt Lake City moving specialists also suggest you take the time to lightly decorate and feature the room from its best angle. Add little details such as fresh flowers or throw pillows to make the room inviting. These tips will help you sell your home in a competitive market. The All My Sons of Salt Lake City movers also remind you to have concise descriptions along with the pictures to help attract potential home buyers.

Shelves Double as Moving Boxes

Recently your Salt Lake City mover stumbled upon a neat easy-to-move shelving design that serves a double purpose! Shelving units are very useful in the home, not only do they provide storage for books and other small items; they also add a stylish touch to any home décor. Shelves can be a hassle when it comes time to move however. Additionally, it is often easy to forget how important moving supplies such as boxes are when the time to start packing comes. “Brickbox” shelves solve both of these minor moving problems! At first glance, these stack-able boxes appear as one large and very stylish shelving unit; the shelves easily break down though and become boxes which come in handy on your moving day! Check them out, they may be an excellent addition to your home both stylishly and functionally!

The Building Blocks of your Salt Lake City Move

Not every move is the same. This is very clear to your local Salt Lake moving professionals, but that is because we move more times in a day than you do in a year! Your move is one of a kind, so it is important to know how to break your move down so that you really know what you’re dealing with any time it is time to move locally or long distance.

How much service do I need? How long will my move take? What are the absolute heaviest items that I need to move? Am I moving any thing out of the ordinary that my Salt Lake City mover should know about? These are the types of questions you need to be asking yourself when it’s time to draw up moving plans. The amount of service you need may be a lot less than you think, and if this is the case you have a golden opportunity to slash your moving costs significantly. The amount of time taken on your move is likely going to have a direct effect on the total cost you’ll end up with at the end of the day. Certain variables such as: total square-footage of your home; the number of stories in your home; how heavily furnished your home is; etc, are all indicators of how long your move will take. The important objective here is to make sure and hire professional movers with full time employees and a good reputation so that you know your moving team is going to hustle on the job. Heavy items and specialty items such as pianos or grandfather clocks are items worth mentioning to your potential Salt Lake mover; extra labor may be ideal with heavier pieces, and special equipment or license may be necessary to ensure safe handling and delivery of your more delicate belongings.

The list can go on and on; everybody’s move is unique. And your Salt Lake City movers here never neglect to treat your move as the unique project that it is. If you have a simple move, you probably already know it, and you can call your movers up at a moments notice to get on the schedule for your move date. However; for larger moves or more complicated jobs, a free in home estimate may be your best bet for a flawless moving game plan! When you’re moving, you gotta get your head in the game, just like your professional Salt Lake movers!

New Home Improvement

Are you moving in Salt Lake City to a new home? Much of the time the home is only new to the person taking occupancy. Moving into a previously-lived-in home, you will undoubtedly run into wear and tear around the house. If you have purchased this new home, odds are it is in pretty decent shape, but there is always room for improvement. I would like to offer some food-for-thought that will hopefully inspire those soon to move into a new-to-you home. A little bit of effort goes a long way, and may inspire you to start other home-improvement projects as well. Before your Salt Lake City mover arrives to deliver your furniture, consider the following simple improvements for your new home:

  • Doors and windows are an excellent starting point. Think about how often you open and close your doors and windows. Over time, these access points do succumb to wear and tear. Replacing the weather stripping along door and window frames is a smart and easy fix as this improves the appearance of your home, and the efficiency of your air conditioning and heating appliances. This should be pretty self explanatory and also very simple to do. As for any hinged doorways; over time a squeak is likely to develop as moisture can cause rust, and friction can cause an accumulation of tiny metal shavings inside the hinges. It is best to remove hinge pins so that the door can be removed and the hinge components cleaned out and lubricated. Any petroleum based lubricant such as WD-40 will work well. Take this opportunity to tighten the mounting hardware on each hinge as these become loose over time. Tightening the hinge screws should fix most stuck doors also. You may want to use sand paper to file down the top and/or sides of any doors which stick even after the hinges have been fixed. Also, survey each doorway in need of new door stoppers. Avoiding doorknob holes in your wall is one way to keep your new home nice!
  • Light switch and power outlet plate replacement is also a simple effective fix for your new home. If these plates are in need of replacement, you may even choose to upgrade all of them to a different style/color. There are many different styles of switch and outlet plates to choose from, you’ll surely find a style that grabs your attention. While you are in the process of removing your old plates, take this opportunity to insulate behind plates on the exterior walls of your home. Energy efficiency repairs are very advantageous and are often simple fixes.
  • The walls of your new home may be in need of some quick fixes. If the previous owners of your home hung pictures, there may be several nail holes in your walls. These are simple to repair, just apply a small wad of putty into each nail hole and smooth it out with a knife. A fresh coat of new paint doesn’t hurt either after your nail holes have been filled. If you notice pealing wallpaper, there is a much quicker fix than fully replacing it. Simply spread a liberal amount of paste on both sides of a note card or sheet of paper. Place the paper applicator between the wall and the wallpaper, and flatten the pealed wallpaper against the pasted paper so that the glue is applied evenly. Then slide the applicator back out from between the wall and wallpaper. Pat down the wallpaper one more time to make extra sure that the paste is well applied and then use a damp cloth to clean any excess paste that may have squeezed out from under the wallpaper.

There are plenty of simple inexpensive repairs you can perform on your new home. The better your new home looks, the more excited you’ll be about having your Salt Lake City movers finally deliver your furniture on your moving day. Be sure to hire a reputable Salt Lake City mover so that the walls floors and doors of your newly spruced up home remain in good shape.
