Home Sales Go Up By 8.8%

The Salt Lake City moving specialists uncovered the latest news surrounding the real estate market in the U.S.in the month of February. According to the National Association of Realtors, home sales have increased this past February compared to last year during that same month. This marked the highest level of sales in February for the last five years. The Salt Lake City movers learned that the real estate market is “off to its fastest start” since 2007. Plus, according to the Commerce Department more building permits for new homes were issued in February 2012 than any other month since October 2008. Some people are saying that this upward real estate trend is due to the milder winter of 2012 but not everyone agrees that weather had anything to do with the numbers. The Salt Lake City moving specialists learned that for the first time since November 2010, the average price for an existing home showed year-over year increase. Inventory also increased from January to February with 2.43 million unsold homes on the market compared to July 2007′s 4.04 million unsold homes.

Smelly House? Check Under Your Sink

After a long hard day at work, all you want to do is go home and enjoy your personal space. But what happens when you get there and the place smells like a sewer? The local Salt Lake City movers found out that it can be your home’s P-trap. That’s the curvy bit of pipe under your sink, it looks like a half-loop below the drain. When this bit of bend fills up with water, it forms a seal to stop anything from the other end of the drain form coming up. So your sink and tub are protected from sewer gases floating through your plumbing and into the house, thus no foul smells. U.S, pluming codes require that P-traps are placed in every drain opening, along with specific angles and materials that should be used. But, over time, the water inside can evaporate, breaking the seal and allowing the fumes and odors to stink up your place.

So if you suspect an air freshener can’t get rid of your home’s odor problem, the Salt Lake City moving specialists say check your P-trap.

Is A Contractor Right For You?

If you rather do a few upgrades and changes rather than sell your home and move, hiring a professional and reputable contractor can be the answer. The one thing to remember is that besides his or her credentials, you should hire someone you feel comfortable around and safe. The Salt Lake City moving specialists remind you that this person will be around your home for days or weeks, around your family and everything that’s important to you. You have to be able to fully trust them. This is where references come in really handy. If your friends, colleagues or family have employed someone in the past, at least that person would be a trusted contractor.

The Salt Lake City movers also remind you that if you go with the hire-a-contractor route, expect plans to be derailed a little and for schedule to run late. It comes with the territory and almost doesn’t really reflect on the contractor you hired. It’s part of having work done in your home. Don’t forget to have a contract put together before any work starts. This will help you communicate your expectations and avoid confusion. The contract should have all of the information needed to finish the job. Things like brands, cost, timeline and other specifications should be included. Good luck from All My Sons of Salt Lake City!
