If you haven’t heard of Uber yet, chances are you will once you make the move to Salt Lake City. The widely popular, modern taxi service is now offering rides for skiers and snowboarders who need a lift to any of Utah’s ski resorts, a service named UberSki.

All My Sons local Salt Lake City movers are excited for the launch of Uber’s new taxi service, as it will allow skiers to hitch rides to their favorite Utah resorts in all-wheel-drive vehicles that have racks for skis and snowboards. With the use of a simple app, skiers can book, rate drivers, and pay for their ride straight from their smartphone.

If you have recently moved to Salt Lake City and are interested in catching a ride to Powder Mountain, Alta, Park City, Deer Valley or another Utah resort simply download the Uber App on your phone and request an uberSki. The specialty taxi service is $4 more than the original Uber service, which our local Salt Lake City movers find reasonable with the added services that come with uberSki.

Flying into Salt Lake City from somewhere else in the country? No problem. uberSki offers taxi services from the airport straight to any Utah ski resort, making it perfect for those looking to make the most of their ski trip and get on the slopes in no time flat.

UberSki is sponsored by Backcountry and Utah is the first Uber market to provide a taxi service dedicated to skiers, snowboarders and their equipment.

After several months of serving specialty coffee to appreciative customers from a small hand-crafted coffee cart, two Salt Lake City natives have decided to expand their business’ horizons and move into a larger coffee shop.

Nick Price and Meg Frampton, who had originally relocated to Los Angeles to pursue musical careers, decided it was time to move back to Salt Lake City when they realized that their love for specialty coffee presented business opportunity in their hometown.

“This city is so ready for it,” said Price. “People are so curious about it and so intrigued. Every time they come to the cart they’re like, ‘You’re weighing everything? What does that do? What’s that thing?’ Everyone’s just really interested.”

After moving to Salt Lake City, Price and Frampton named their coffee business Three Pines Coffee and began serving their specialty, espresso-based coffee from their cart just outside of Liberty Heights Fresh. Customers of the local organic grocery store couldn’t help but stop to see what Price and Frampton had to offer. They were quickly hooked and business rapidly began to grow.

All My Sons Salt Lake City Movers have learned that the founders of Three Pines Coffee use beans exclusively from Heart Roasters and are hoping to move to a Salt Lake City storefront in early 2016. They enjoy serving customers from their unique coffee cart outside the popular health food store, but are also looking for a space where they can offer people a bite to eat and a place to sit and relax.

According to Price, “I want to be able to offer more.”

Mayor Ben McAdams is making homelessness in Salt Lake City a priority and teaming with several organizations and agencies to get people the help they need. According to KUTV.com, Mayor McAdams has begun a new initiative this month that will target homeless people and their families by better understanding the reasoning behind them being homeless and what can be done to remove them from this dangerous situation.

If you have recently moved to Salt Lake City, you are aware of the cold temperatures this city can reach during the winter months. Therefore, it’s important to Mayor McAdams and many others to get as many homeless individuals and families off the streets as possible in order to get them back on their feet and out of potentially dangerous situations.

The belief behind Mayor McAdams’ new initiative is that by several organizations and agencies teaming up and tackling the issue of homelessness together, a bigger and more successful impact can be made.

“We do great work every day, but to come together as a whole and be more collaborative and intentional in achieving our outcomes we can make a much bigger impact on the community,” said Jennifer Godfrey, Salt Lake’s Community Action Program Chief Operations Officer of social services.

Regardless of how successful this new initiative is, one thing is for certain. If you are planning a move to Salt Lake City, you are clearly going to be living in a city where residents and officials care about one another and work hard to protect their own.

As if there weren’t enough great reasons for moving to Salt Lake City, CareerBuilder has now dubbed the city the second most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse. According to CareerBuilder, conducting this survey made sense and was 100 percent necessary.

CareerBuilder teamed up with Economic Modeling Specialists Intl. (EMSI) to give metropolises five important scores on the following: defense, containment, cure, food and total score. The cities were then ranked highest score to lowest. Salt Lake City fell second to Boston as Boston has an extremely high cure score with the large amount of medical services and intelligence available there.

The “Zombie Apocalypse Index” was released by CareerBuilder on October 29th, just in time for Halloween. Salt Lake City movers learned that the research was based on residents’ occupational skills and industry features to better understand how a metropolitan area would fair against a standard flesh-eating virus that could be transmitted by bite or contact with infected blood.

According to the survey, Salt Lake City’s biggest asset during a zombie apocalypse is its engineering abilities. Being able to contain the virus and protect a population is one of the most important factors of surviving, so the fact that Salt Lake City is home to several thousand civil, electrical, mechanical and nuclear engineers is a huge plus.

A zombie apocalypse may seem farfetched for some, but doesn’t it make you feel better knowing that moving to Salt Lake City will increase your chances of surviving a flesh-eating disease?

New Frontier at Sundance, a program launched by Sundance Institute in 2007 to spotlight innovative artists, is shedding light on a new form of film viewing, virtual reality. The Sundance Institute announced that it will be partnering with Jaunt Studios to create a virtual reality residency program that will sponsor a new artist while he or she creates a virtual reality exhibit.

Sundance’s New Frontier Program has chosen Australian, Lynette Wallworth, as its first residency artist. Wallworth, who is not new on the Sundance circuit (her “Coral: Rekindling Venus” debuted in 2013 as part of the New Frontier Program), is working on a piece named “Collisions”. This virtual reality project follows the life of an elderly Aboriginal man and how the mainstream advances of today have affected his daily life.

Before the film begins, audiences will move to Salt Lake City’s Sundance Film Festival screening room and receive a pair of goggles and earphones. Although this makes for a more solitary viewing experience, those watching will have their senses heightened due to the virtual reality of the film.

According to Sundance Institute, the New Frontier exhibition, “…has provide the highest level of curation in the emerging field, incorporating fiction, non-fiction and hybrid projects to showcase transmedia storytelling, multi-media installations, performances and films.”

If you are moving to Salt Lake City, you won’t want to miss what this innovative program is going to bring to the area where Sundance Film Festival is such a big part of the city’s reputation.
