Thanks to the Laytoncity.org website, the Layton moving specialists are able to share with you a little piece of Layton history. The city of Layton started in 1850 as an agricultural extension to the settlement that became Kaysville. The first settlers established farms along Kays Creek. Eventually people started living along Holmes Creek, Haight’s Creek and of course, Kays Creek. The Layton movers learnt that the majority of residents were from England or New Englanders of English descent.
Later, after the wagon road was built between Salt Lake City and Ogden, trade establishments were founded on what is today’s Layton’s Main St. In late 1860, the Utah Central Railway was built and local businesses opened including blacksmiths, shoemakers, tanners, weavers and more. The Layton local movers learnt that the earliest mercantile businesses included Burton, Herrick and White Company, Barton and Company and Adams and Son’s Company. Eventually, the Layton post office opened and an elementary school. In 1920, Layton incorporated as a town. In 1963, the Fort Lane Shopping Center opened and in 1980 Layton Hills Mall followed.
