If you need to relocate, there will be many things on your to-do list. As a parent, high on your priority list is likely finding a good neighborhood. Before the Salt Lake City movers show up at your door, you can do a little homework to make sure you get a home in the right community that meets your needs. We at All My Sons understand how important your neighborhood is to both your kids and to you.
What You Prefer
Because you probably already have your “musts” written out for your house, do the same for your neighborhood. You may need to live in a certain school district, for example. You can also list out your preferences, such as:
· Do you want quiet streets?
· Are amenities, such as a pool or playground, necessary?
· Would you like to be close to shopping centers and grocery stores?
· Do you prefer new construction or an older home?
What You Should Consider
In addition to the things you would like to see from your community, you should also weigh:
· Crime: Research statistics online according to each prospective neighborhood or contact the local police department. Look for graffiti or vandalism in the area.
· Commute: What will your drive look like now, and how long will it take the kids to get to school?
· Property value and taxes: Ask your real estate agent how homes in the neighborhood are currently valued, and check to see if future development is coming. Find out how property taxes have changed over the last few years and if more changes are coming.
